Reviews for the Singer 7442 Electronic Sewing Machine appear to be pretty good on the surface with an average user rating of 4 stars. However, there are quite a few very negative reviews from people that gave this machine a 1 star rating and we have to take those into consideration as well.

There were quite a few people that liked this machine and the people that gave positive reviews listed a number of things that they were happy with. The machine is easy to use, you can select your preferred stitch by just pressing the button a few times and then you are ready to sew. You can also modify your stitch length and width with a sliding lever. There are also a number of good stitches pre-programmed into the machine. The Singer 7442 has a “6 second threading system” and people are reporting that they are able to thread this machine in just a few seconds.

There are quite a few good reviews and after reading some of those the Singer 7442 looks like a good machine but there are far too many negative reviews to ignore. The biggest problem was that this machine is simply unreliable and will not last. There are a lot of reviews from people that said something on their machine broke or the machine simply stopped working after a short period of time. Although there is a 25 year limited warranty on this machine many of the parts are only covered for one year and labor costs are not covered so you’ll still have to pay for the repairs to be done.

Many negative reviews are coming from people whose machines are breaking down and because different problems are arising for different people it seems like the overall build quality of this machine is substandard. One person is reporting that they used the machine for a few months and then they started having trouble with the auto tension. Another person had problems with the bobbin jamming, someone else had problems with the timing of the machine. There are more issues but they are just numerous to go into. Our recommendation would be to pass on this machine and continue shopping to find something more reliable.
